Road Trips:

I’ve always enjoyed road trips. Been doing them since I was a kid. When my folks divorced my father would have us kids for a couple months each summer. He purchased a used POS motor home and took us on cross-country journeys. Since the motor home frequently had troubles, these vacations weren’t all smiles & joy. And my father was a bit of a control freak who became easily frustrated not only with our means of transportation, but also with us children.  He yelled a lot. He criticized a lot. Nonetheless, I recall these trips to be exciting, seeing new places & meeting his friends in other places like Santa Fe, Taos and elsewhere. He was friends with artists like R.C. Gorman, Patrick Swazo Hinds and Helen Cordero, and with fun & interesting people like Winnie Beasley who had a motorcycle with a sidecar which she gave us children rides in.

As an adolescent I took a few road trips with friends from Colorado to California. As an adult I occasionally continued with journeys westward, as well as some back to the Midwest where I am from. Here are some images from varying years & ages. Scenes, inspiration & memories.
